by Wendy Lloyd - Tuesday, 21 February 2017, 1:30 PM

    OPEN HOUSE ON RURAL EDUCATION

School District No. 73 (Kamloops/Thompson) and the Ministry of Education are hosting a community meeting on Tuesday, February 28th, 2017, to share ideas on rural education in B.C.  Interested parents and community members are invited to attend and express their thoughts on rural education and the importance of rural schools.

This Open House is part of a public engagement process to help develop a provincial rural education strategy by the summer of 2017.

Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Education Linda Larson and Ministry of Education staff invite everyone to attend this event at:

Henry Grube Education Centre, 245 Kitchener Crescent, Kamloops, BC from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 28th, 2017.  This even will be Video-Conferenced to rural secondary school sites in Chase, Logan Lake, Clearwater, and Barriere.

*PLEASE NOTE: LOGAN LAKE SECONDARY IS PLEASED TO MAKE THE QUESTION AND ANSWER PORTION OF THIS MEETING AVAILABLE TO YOU THROUGH VIDEO-CONFERENCING AT THE HIGH SCHOOL FROM 7:00 TO 8:00 PM.

You are also invited to respond to the Ministry's draft discussion paper on rural education at https://engage.gov.bc/ruraleducation.

All feedback received will help government shape a final report on an integrated rural education strategy.  This strategy aims to find long-term solutions for the unique challenges facing rural school districts and communities, including looking at the important social, cultural, and economic roles that schools play in small communities.

Chili Dinner and Talent Show CANCELLED
by Wendy Lloyd - Friday, 17 February 2017, 3:32 PM

    Dear Parent/Guardian,

I would like to thank all of you who sold tickets and/or volunteered to make or bring something for our Chili Dinner and Talent Show.  However, due to the low volume of ticket sales, we are cancelling this fundraising event for the year.  I hope everyone can appreciate the fact that there are some upfront costs to consider before hosting an event such as this dinner.  We felt that it was best not to spend money upfront that we may not be able to recoup through this activity.

For those students who brought ticket money in, we will be happy to refund the money at the office.  Parents/guardians can either come by to pick up the money, or they can phone in to the school so that we can send it home with their student.

Again, I am sorry that we are unable to run this event.  However, we will be starting the Purdy's Easter Chocolate Fundraiser very soon.  I strongly encourage your students to get out and sell a lot of chocolate as we earn a high percentage on every sale made.

    Sincerely,

    Chris Preymak
