Now that September is coming to a close, the time has come to review our Homework Club expectations with students and parents.
1. To start the semester, any students who have overdue assignments will be encouraged to attend Homework Club Mondays through Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. This will be presented as a choice/opportunity for students to take ownership of their work. Attendance is encouraged but not mandatory.
2. Subsequently, on the first day of each month, any students with overdue work will be required to attend Homework Club every day that it is offered until they are completely caught up. Parents will be notified by the teacher by phone or by email. The responsibility for attending Homework Club and knowing what work is overdue rests with the student.
3. Students who fail to attend Homework Club on two of the required days will be directed to work in the office or in another designated space during breaks and lunch hours. Students who find themselves in this situation will not have access to their cell phones. Parents will be notified by School Administration. In Terms 1 and 3, students will receive an "I" as a letter grade on their report cards or interim reports if they have assignments that have not been submitted. A student's final grade will be based on work that has been completed and assessed.
Once students are completely caught up in all classes, their names will be removed from the Homework Club list. Students who are up to date at the start of every month will not be required to attend Homework Club. We hope that through this system, students will develop a sense of responsibility for completing assignments on time.
